In February 2022, I flew away from Russia, and for the first six months of the war I’d been living in Georgia. But Georgia refused my application for a residence permit, and most European embassies in Georgia, Armenia, or Turkey wouldn’t touch my case — since I am a Russian citizen, I needed to return to Russia and ask for a visa there.

Only two countries agreed to work with me, France and Lithuania. Lithuania was faster in dealing with bureaucracy, so since summer of 2022, I’ve been a resident of Vilnius. As have been many Russians who do not accept the current Russian state’s policies.

A wonderful city, a hospitable country!
