12 Q U O T A T I O N S

Lev Semyonovich Rubinstein is no more, and the pain of his absence is unbearable. I mourn him, a human being, with all my heart, and I can’t imagine my heart will ever stop crying, but here I have to say something about his writings. And this is very hard; I need to shift the modus of the discourse, of experiencing what has happened. But the thing is, it seems Lev Rubinstein never did that himself, at least not in his essays, some of which we had the honor of publishing. He never adjusted himself to his texts—in them, he just stayed the very person whom we mourn today; he was still that remarkable, perceptive, witty, open-minded, infinitely sharp-sighted, stubborn, and honest Lev Semyonovich Rubinstein. Wise. Unyielding. Alive. Yours, Linor
